Joke and Mighty left their sock
January 4, 1998
Dear Jody and Mike,
Okay. So, we?re not feeling so comfortable and think we should express it so that all will feel well again among us.
We don?t mind that you used our washer/dryer. We don?t mind that it occurred to you after we left and you didn?t ask. We swear. What we mind is how you handled it.
We got home to find little green lint balls all over the carpet and in the bathtub(???). So, we?re feeling kind of dumb and confused. Hmm? What ?s this? Do you think they did laundry here? Naw, there?d be a note, or Jody would have said something when she saw us. Then, we find the dryer sheet on the floor. Okay. Looks more conclusive, but still we?re feeling kind of dumb and paranoid. Then, the final clue…a sock. Ah ha! So, they did do their laundry. Why the hell wouldn?t they just say so? For as much as we don?t mind, we do feel it?s kind of lame to come into our home without telling us. We?d never just go in yours without letting you know (unless you asked us to, of course). So there. We said it.
The part that has us kind of out of sorts is that when we looked for a playful way to let you acknowledge it you took the shitty way out. You didn?t respond. Then, when we asked you about it you had two responses…one was to tell Lorri that you thought, ?you guys must have too much free time on your hand.? That feels hostile and totally unaccepting of any sort of acknowledgement. The other response was to say to Bryan, ?I thought I did respond.? Equally dismissive and totally lacking in acknowledgement.
Best guess is that you felt bad and just wanted to avoid the ?conflict.? To us though, your reaction was the only real conflict.
Since we have/get to live so near each other, we want things to feel neighborly and friendly and don?t feel like harboring resentment. Hopefully, this letter will help air things out.
Lorri and Bryan
